About Catalina London Limited
Catalina London Limited (FRN 202653) was an insurance undertaking authorised by
the Prudential Regulation Authority, pursuant to the European Union (Insurance
and Reinsurance) Regulations 2015, to carry out non-life insurance business in
classes 1 to 17 as defined in the Solvency II Directive 2009. The Part 4A permissions
of Catalina London Limited were cancelled with effect from 17th April 2023.
The Company was previously part of the Alea Group and was acquired by Catalina
in October 2009. Following this acquisition the company was renamed Catalina
London Limited (formerly Alea London Limited, Imperial Fire and Marine
Reinsurance Company Limited, Aetna Reinsurance Company Limited, and American
Re-Insurance Company Limited).
The Company underwrote insurance business in the UK and US and reinsurance
business worldwide across various lines including property, marine,
professional, commercial and employers' liability and aviation. The Company was
placed into run off in 2006.
On 17th November 2017, Mr Justice Nugee, in the High Court, Chancery Division,
sanctioned the transfer of the insurance business of KX reinsurance company Limited
and OX Reinsurance Company Limited to Catalina London Limited under an insurance
business transfer scheme pursuant to Part VII of the Financial Services and markets
Act 2000 (as amended).
The business transferred comprises all the insurance business and reinsurance
business underwritten or assumed, including by way of novation or portfolio
transfer, by KX Re and OX Re.
On 18 November 2022 an order was made by the High Court sanctioning the insurance
business transfer scheme pursuant to Part VII of the Financial Services and Markets
Act 2000, incorporating the entirety of the general insurance and reinsurance business
written and/or assumed by AGF Insurance Limited and Catalina London Limited to Catalina
Worthing Insurance Limited. The transfer became effective at 23:59 GMT on 30 November 2022.
